I Need The Light! 26 Weekly Devotionals to Help You Through Winter
Janet grew up in a Presbyterian family, and her faith is important to her. In fact, it is an integral part of her life.
In 1987, Janet was diagnosed as having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and Fibromyalgia. Cold weather makes her body-wide aches and pains worse. She has never been a fan of cold weather, but these conditions seemed to make fall and winter even harder for her.
A few years ago, she was diagnosed as having Seasonal Affective Disorder. Her physician’s assistant told her that she needed to get plenty of natural light in the mornings. Not being a “morning person” and not liking cold weather, this was the last thing Janet wanted to hear!
Janet wanted to feel better, though, so she made herself get out and walk after the sun was above the trees every morning. Several days into this new routine, she started repeating to herself, “I need the light, I need the light.” On about the fourth or fifth repetition as she walked, she suddenly realized that she also needed The Light – Jesus Christ. That’s when the “t” in “the” and the “l” in “light” became capitalized. That day, God sowed the seed in her for writing a devotional book to help other people facing challenges like hers.
God speaks to us through the various versions of the Bible we are blessed with today. Janet chose to present each week’s Scripture in this book from The Message, The Good News Bible, The Living Bible, The New Oxford Annotated Bible (New Revised Standard Version), and TouchPoint Bible. Each week’s devotional includes Janet’s thoughts, a sentence to remember, a thought pattern interrupter to combat negative thoughts and feelings, an activity suggestion, and a comfort food recipe.
Most of the devotionals also include insight from Bible commentaries such as those by William Barclay.
The book can be used over a 26-week period or it can be read faster than that. The devotionals can be read in any order, although occasionally there are references to earlier devotionals in the book.
