Descendants of John & Mary Morrison of Rocky River, by Alice Marie Morrison and Janet Sue Morrison, 1996.

$20.00

This genealogy book was compiled by Janet and her sister, Marie. It repeats the information about pioneer couple John and Mary Morrison found in The Morrison Family of the Rocky River Settlement of North Carolina, published by Adelaide and Eugenia Lore in 1950.

Janet and Marie set out in 1990 to update that book. They gathered so much information that it was not possible to publish the update in one volume. Therefore, in 1996 they published individual books about each of the three Morrison couples who settled in the Rocky River community in Mecklenburg and present-day Cabarrus counties in North Carolina in the 1760s.

While visiting Scotland, Janet and Marie saw the original baptismal records for John, James, and Robert Morrison as well as the marriage record for the brothers’ parents. That information, as well as some details about the farms Morrisons lived on in the late 1600s and early 1700s on the Kintyre Peninsula are included in the book.

The book follows John and Mary Morrison’s descendants primarily in Cabarrus and Mecklenburg counties in North Carolina; Benton, Clark, and Saline counties in Arkansas; Logan, Livingston, McCracken, and Todd counties in Kentucky; Macon and Sumner counties in Tennessee; Lee and Pontotoc counties in Mississippi; and Marion County, Indiana.
