Descendants of James & Jennet Morrison of Rocky River, by Alice Marie Morrison and Janet Sue Morrison, 1996.
$35.00
This genealogy book was compiled by Janet and her sister, Marie. It repeats the information about pioneer couple James and Jennet Morrison found in The Morrison Family of the Rocky River Settlement of North Carolina, published by Adelaide and Eugenia Lore in 1950.
Janet and Marie set out in 1990 to update that book. They gathered so much information that it was not possible to publish the update in one volume. Therefore, in 1996 they published individual books about each of the three Morrison couples who settled in the Rocky River community in Mecklenburg and present-day Cabarrus counties in North Carolina in the 1760s.
While visiting Scotland, Janet and Marie saw the original baptismal records for John, James, and Robert Morrison as well as the marriage record for the brothers’ parents. That information, as well as some details about the farms Morrisons lived on in the late 1600s and early 1700s on the Kintyre Peninsula are included in the book.
The book follows James and Jennet Morrison’s descendants primarily in Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Anson, Buncombe, Iredell, Rowan and Union counties in North Carolina; Calhoun, Dallas, Lowndes, and Montgomery counties in Alabama; Grenada, Lafayette, Pontotoc, Tishomingo, and Yalobusha counties in Mississippi; Campbell, Carroll, Cobb, Douglas, and Polk counties in Georgia; Prince Edward and Rockbridge counties in Virginia; Brown, Tarrant, Travis, and Young counties in Texas; Bossier Parish in Louisiana; McCracken County, Kentucky; Fayette County, Tennessee; and Greenville and Marion counties in South Carolina.
