Marie's lifelong love of books began when the bookmobile stopped at our house when she was a little girl. It was no surprise when she chose libraries as her life's work. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in library science from Appalachian State University and a Master of Science in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She retired in 1999 with 30 years' experience as a public school media specialist. She is now a merchandiser for American Greetings.
Marie is a member of Rocky River Presbyterian Church where she currently serves as an Elder and Clerk of the Session, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary
Sorority for Women Educators, the North Carolina Association of Educators, the Harrisburg Historical Society, the North Carolina Society of Historians, the North Carolina Presbyterian Historical Society, the Cabarrus Genealogy Society, and Book Ends Book Club. She is currently serving a second three-year term on the Cabarrus County Public Library Board of Trustees representing the Town of Harrisburg. Marie is also on the committee which plans the annual One Book, One Community program for the Cabarrus County Public Library.
